A Steve Peterson Story: Choice is the Name of the Game
Steve Peterson knew he had a choice to make. He knew he had to do something to change his lifestyle. For exercise he had been doing his “own thing” – basketball, running – but at best it was inconsistent. In 2010 he was given the opportunity to begin CrossFit at the school he works. Because the school didn’t post the daily WOD, he had to be dressed, ready to go, and ready to embrace whatever was planned. The surprise element was a huge motivator. In 2011 Steve joined CrossFit Troy and his work ethic and intensity is now motivation to the rest of us.
Some of his stats include:
August 2010 versus Now
Weighed 245 versus Weighs 205
BMI 33 versus BMI 22
15 years of high blood pressure meds versus NO MEDS
Cholesterol meds versus Lowered the dosage
On the couch by 8 PM versus More energy into the evening
Steve knows that the discipline of CrossFit has spilled over into other areas of his life. He is now more goal-oriented. Because CrossFit Troy started having the athletes set micro-goals in the gym, he decided to have his Bible class at school set micro-goals for April. In May the students will write their goals on the wall (Shhh…the students don’t know this, yet!) Along the way Steve started changing his eating habits by using the Paleo diet. He’s not super strict with it, but because he is eating differently, his family has also made changes and is eating more paleo-like.
The results that Steve has experienced are so obvious, others ask him what changes he has made. That’s what it’s all about: Choice is the name of the game.
