It's a question that is critical to all of us to answer. If you're not clear what you're committed to, you'll get sucked into something NOT of your choosing. A few quick examples: No one plans to gain 50 lbs, but the majority of Americans have. No one plans to lose their marriage, but the majority of Americans have and will. No one plans to have a poorer retirement, but the majority of my generation will.
Over the years I've seen hundreds of clients come and go. It's sad to say that many more have started and quit their fitness efforts than have stayed. I suppose that's par for the course for any gym and CrossFits are not an exception.
In looking through my years of experiences, I've seen a pattern and can now clearly identify seven commitments that greatly increase the chances of success for long term fitness. As a gym, and for me personally, we can work even harder to help our existing an new clients, understand, make and keep these commmitments.
I'll address each of the below commitments in much greater depth over the next couple weeks.
1) Frequency of training - moving beyond the 2-day-a-week mentality.
2) Admitting and dealing with our medications and addictions. I'll be stepping on toes here. Two big ones are alcohol and sugar.
3) Being a part of a healthy community by building and investing in authentic relationships.
4) Coachability and a desire for continual growth.
5) Taking couragous steps to rearrange priorities of your life to support the things that fuel success. This will involve your money and your time. More toe stepping.
6) Taking your fitness efforts "outside the box".
The most important of all
7) The realization that you are powerless to do this yourself. If you are not yet desperate for change, just turn the channel.
